Easton Ridge, Cle Elum, Teanaway, Swauk Prairie
Darryl Led A sizable group of 14 on a beautiful day on the "East Side". Highlights included baby Spotted Sandpipers, Black-headed Grosbeaks in the nest, and a young Red-naped Sapsucker peeking out of it's hole. Near the end of the day a farmer stopped and invited us to his place. There we saw four differant species of hummingbirds at virtually the same instant as they swarmed to the numerous feeders.

Deering Wildflower Acres, Marysville
Al Elliott led this trip as Bobbi Cross had a family commitment to fulfill. Art, Mara, Julie, Keith, Laura, Phil, Karen(Caretaker) and Warren had a nice day on this beautiful example of what the area was once like. While the count was small due to the lateness of the trip it was an enjoyable adventure. A good place to return to early in the morning. Unfortunately this cannot be done legally as the opening hours set by ther Marysville Park Dept. are 9 on some days and 12 on others. A highlight was several sightings of a Cooper's Hawk in the woods and then at lunch two of them flew over and circled the picnic area.

North Central Illinois
The following result of a trip to my home environs is offered because I found some of the birdiest places I have seen anywhere. Most of the sightings were within a few miles of the Illinois River in La Salle and Bureau Counties Illinois. The historic I & M Canal towpath between LaSalle and Utica Illinois is loaded with birds. As is the "Bottom Road" between Spring Valley and DePue Ill. I apparently caught the migration as numerous sightings are not shown as being residents. Several warbler, vireo and sparrow species not listed here were seen too briefly to I.D. or too many at one time to register on brain other than to know I didn't know what they were.
A typical "crew" of birders would have seen much more I think.
Highlights include Bobolinks, very good looks at Yellow-billed Cuckoos, A flock of at least 500 Grackles drifting though an oak timber, many warbler species, Cardinals and Red-headed Woodpeckers of course and an estimated 9500 starlings going to roost in Bloomington, Ill. one evening.
If anyone has an oppurtunity to bird this area I reccomend doing it!

C Post Rd., Mt. Higgins House, Fortson Mill Ponds, Arlington
Donna, Nancy, Warren, Art, Keith, Tom and Virginia led Darryl on this trip along the Stillaguamish River. A highlight of the trip was being joined by Renee Ottersen who allowed us to tour her charming 70 acre property and Bed & Breakfast (MtHigginsHouse@msn.com) adjacent to the C Post Rd. There a few of us saw a Ruffed Grouse which flew up, (thanks to Renee's friendly Doberman Ellie), and sat on a branch and allowed us to observe instead of scaring the bejeebers out of us and disappearing as usual. On a day which was overcast and very quiet birdwise we managed 50 species and, hard as it was, ate up Virginia's cookies.
