Birding: Sultan

  • 17433 Stevens Pass Highway Monroe, WA, 98272 United States (map)

Meet at the Monroe Park & Ride, 17433 Highway 2 (west of the fairgrounds). Please come prepared to carpool – the number of cars affects where we are able to stop for birding, as well as safety and the environment. We’ll visit Osprey Park for a level two-mile walk in riparian habitat along the Sultan River, where salmon habitat restoration has produced many braided side channels and bridge crossings. Possible species include American Dipper and Spotted Sandpiper. From there it is a short drive to Mann Road/Vos Road along the Skykomish River. Possible species include nesting Western Kingbirds, as well as Lazuli Bunting, Yellow-breasted Chat and Eastern Kingbird. Pack a lunch — we’ll eat in the Hambleton’s backyard, with bird feeders in view. If time allows, after lunch we’ll take a short drive to Lake Chaplain Road, where Virginia Rail is likely and Dusky Flycatcher appeared in 2024.
