Photo Contest

Each year, we have a photography contest associated with Puget Sound Bird Fest. Since we’re moving the festival to early June, we are combining the festival contest with Pilchuck Audubon’s annual Birdathon photography contest which traditionally occurs in May. Learn more about the photo contest and submit your entries this year!

Congratulations 2024 Poster Art Contest Winner

Lilia Lark Fromm

I was inspired to paint this Rufous hummingbird after learning about their incredible 2,000-mile migration from Central Mexico to the Pacific Northwest and north into Alaska. I was amazed that a bird weighing just 3-4 grams could undertake such a journey — reflecting the sense of wonder I always feel when observing birds. I painted the Pacific rhododendron (the state flower of Washington) after a visit to the Washington Park Arboretum to study the bright pink blooms in early spring. I love the variety of bright colors in rhododendron flowers. In my artwork, I try to capture the joy that I feel when seeing wildlife and the beauty of nature’s colors. I seek to connect with nature, spark joy, and nurture mindfulness for the world around us. I primarily use watercolor, gouache or acrylic gouache, and colored pencil in my work.

Lilia Lark Fromm grew up in Nebraska, inspiring a love for Sandhill cranes, prairie songbirds, and wide open spaces. She is passionate about using art to connect with wildlife and cultivate a sense of wonder for the natural world. Lilia was introduced to ornithology during her undergraduate studies in hospitality at Cornell University. After a summer working in Yellowstone National Park, she was inspired to pursue a graduate degree studying the psychology of what makes our experiences meaningful. This spring, Lilia is graduating from the University of Washington with a master's in Marketing. She hopes to pursue a career that combines her love for hospitality, marketing, creative expression, and nature. Contact Lilia or see more of her art at lilialark.com
