Birding: Ellensburg Area

  • 17433 U.S. 2 Monroe, WA, 98272 United States (map)

Meet at 6:00 AM at the Monroe Park & Ride, 17433 Highway 2 (west of the Evergreen Fairgrounds), organize into carpools and proceed to Snoqualmie Pass OR meet the group at 7:15 AM at the Snoqualmie Pass summit rest area (I-90, exit 52). Please come prepared to carpool. Birding stops will include Thorpe Road, Taneum Creek and Yakima Canyon in search of central Washington sagebrush and riparian specialties. Veerys and nighthawks may have arrived. It’s a long day, and often rewarding. Some birders opt to stay overnight in Ellensburg on May 26 and make this a two-day trip; if you plan to do that, please inform one of the leaders. (Marie and Pam will be at Days Inn and suggest calling the hotel directly for best deal and 24-hour cancellation option.) Dress for the weather and pack a lunch.
